Why Kokoro Works

The workouts at Kokoro Health and Fitness engage your entire body, keeping your metabolism burning, and your heart rate pumping. We achieve this with carefully designed programming incorporating high-intensity and strength-building circuits paired with timed active rest periods.

High-intensity circuit training has proven to not only burn more calories during the workout but to continue the calorie burn for 12-24 hours after the workout. This “after burn” is called excess post-exercise oxygen consumption. Don’t believe me? Check out this link. Studies have shown that strength-building resistance training provides more caloric post-exercise oxygen consumption than aerobic activities. As a whole, physical activity has also been shown to attribute more benefits to brain health as opposed to brain-stimulating activities like reading.

Likewise, controlling the heart rate with timed active rest periods between rounds allows for maximum results.

What To Expect In A Session

What To Bring With You

At Kokoro, everything is taken care of for you. You do not need to bring any equipment, special uniforms, or a loaded gym bag. Everything you need is already at the studio. All you need is appropriate fitness attire, comfortable athletic shoes, a water bottle, and a positive attitude. To promote a healthy mind and spirit, any negative self-talk will be reframed into a positive message.

The Warm Up

Every session starts with a full-body foam roll and dynamic movements. Foam rolling is a self-myofascial release technique. Releasing myofascial before exercise can improve performance, relieve muscle tightness, reduce inflammation, and increase your range of motion. Dynamic movements are a series of movements performed aimed to prepare the body for activity by increasing blood flow, increasing functional mobility, and maximizing flexibility.

Time: ~10 minutes

The Workout

The Kokoro methodology combines circuit training, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), strength training, and functional fitness. The variation of our workout programming and the wide variety of equipment used keeps the workouts fresh, fun, and challenging.  

A full-body Kokoro workout generally consists of Push – Pull – Legs – Core – Cardio. We have 6 stations that are carefully selected to provide you with maximum benefits. Completing all 6 stations = 1 round and classes generally complete 4-5 rounds. Each round ends with a 90 – 120 second active rest period.

Every workout is unique. You may do the same movement at a station to build consistency and develop the targeted muscle but you will never do the same workout twice

Cool Down And Recovery

Safety and injury prevention is of utmost importance. Just as each session starts with foam rolling, each session ends with foam rolling. Foam rolling as a cool-down can decrease delayed-onset muscle soreness, enhance the circulation of oxygenated blood to muscles, and reduce inflammation around muscles and joints. Then we move on to cool-down stretching. Post-workout stretching helps bring your body, including heart rate, blood pressure, and temperature, back into homeostasis. Stretching also lowers your chance of injury, promotes rejuvenating blood flow, and reduces overall stress. Lastly, individual ailments get addressed so you can recover faster and feel your best.

What To Expect After Your Workout

Our goal is to send you off feeling better than when you arrived. You will probably be a little sore after your first session especially if you have not engaged certain muscles in a while. We recommend daily foam rolling for optimal recovery.

We recognize that your diet and lifestyle are just as important as exercise for achieving results. Remember, Kokoro means mind, body, and spirit. That’s why we provide online resources, in-class tips, motivational pep talks, and are available to answer any questions you may have.

We understand sometimes life gets in the way but we also know that consistency is a major factor in achieving your health and fitness goals.
